To everyone attending any of my sessions: Have you tried the community feature on the HeyMarvelous platform yet? Please do; I am posting in it anyway. I would like us to have a way of communicating faster. This works particularly well if you download their mobile app from your account dashboard. Via this community feature, I would like to support you in your practice and answer questions, and you can message others openly or privately. It is an excellent feature that I have been using for a few years now with the HeyMarvelous people.

Hit reply with questions and queries, and let's send a comment once you are connected.

Do you ever wonder why you crave certain foods? Is it a need or an imbalance? Let’s explore this intriguing topic together!

Incompatible Foods

Do you eat what you like? Did you know that certain foods are not compatible?

Ayurveda has identified foods that work well and complement each other, while others make you feel ill over time.

Of course, it depends on your digestive ability, the strength of your Agni, digestive fire. When it is strong, you can eat whatever you like, and your body can digest it.

When it weakens due to stress, late dinners, late nights, and snacking, you might notice changes in the way you feel. Maybe you feel more sluggish, heavy, bloated, constipated, loose in motion, and have headaches. Then you have to start looking at what you eat.

Here are a few principles to consider:

  • Have fresh fruit by itself and 30 minutes away from other foods.
  • Allow 30 minutes for either side of drinking a large amount of water before eating a meal; it dampens your digestive fire. (Sipping hot water during your meal is okay)
  • Always eat melons by themselves, not even with other fruit and 30 minutes away from anything else.
  • Avoid dairy milk with fresh fruit (i.e., banana or berries with milk in a smoothie).
  • Avoid dairy yoghurt with fresh fruit.
  • Avoid dairy cheese with fresh fruit.
  • Avoid Milk with Salt
  • Avoid Animal Proteins like eggs, meat and fish with starchy grains and starchy veggies.
  • Avoid Fish with milk.

I hear you, you say, but what about my porridge with strawberries? What should I eat now?

If your digestion is strong, unfavourable food combinations are occasionally okay, but repeating them daily will weaken your digestion, which is the pathway to ill health.

It is not about changing your diet immediately. It is more about becoming aware of how you feel after you've eaten incompatible combinations: light, energised, easy, heavy, tired, gassy, and bloated.

Observing how you feel allows you to react quickly and adapt if needed.

Hope this is helpful.

Enjoy your Bank Holiday weekend.
